Horizontal and vertical heterogeneity of sediment microbial community in Site F cold seep, the South China Sea

چکیده
Site F is the most vigorous cold seep known on continental slope of northern South China Sea. Up to now, microbial community structures in sediments based high-throughput sequencing 16S rRNA genes have been studied extensively. However, few studies investigated at fine vertical scales and control stations outside F. In this study, a comprehensive investigation communities along depths varying from 0 24 cm below sea floor (cmbsf) four sampling sites—SRS (Southern Reduced Sediment), NRS (Northern Control 1 (close F), 2 (far F)—was carried out. The high relative abundances anaerobic methanotrophic archaea (ANME), Desulfobacterota [sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB)], Campylobacteria [sulfur-oxidizing (SOB)] SRS indicated that these two sites were newborn compared with non-seep sites, 1, 2. A positive correlation between ANME-1b, ANME-2, SEEP-SRB an enrichment Sulfurovum Methlomonadaceae found surface both NRS, indicating processes oxidation methane (AOM), sulfur oxidation, sulfate reduction might occur sites. was enriched ANME-1b SEEP-SRB2 proposed sulfate-methane transition zone (SMTZ) approximately located 8 cmbsf. abundance ANME may due concentration methane. Desulfatiglans , Methanosarcinaceae SMTZ about 10 According analyses structure environmental factors, could be described as notable reduced sediment site low H S nourished abundant SEEP-SRB1, Methanosarcinales which showed similar distribution pattern. Our study expands current knowledge differences sheds light horizontal heterogeneity

Microbial community changes along the active seepage site of one cold seep in the Red Sea
The active seepage of the marine cold seeps could be a critical process for the exchange of energy between the submerged geosphere and the sea floor environment through organic-rich fluids, potentially even affecting surrounding microbial habitats. However, few studies have investigated the associated microbial community changes. In the present study, 16S rRNA genes were pyrosequenced to deciph...
متن کاملMangrove succession enriches the sediment microbial community in South China
Sediment microorganisms help create and maintain mangrove ecosystems. Although the changes in vegetation during mangrove forest succession have been well studied, the changes in the sediment microbial community during mangrove succession are poorly understood. To investigate the changes in the sediment microbial community during succession of mangroves at Zhanjiang, South China, we used phospho...
متن کاملvertical distribution of heavy metals and enrichment in the south china sea sediment cores
forty seven sediment cores recovered from the south china sea coasts along the east coast of peninsular malaysia were analysed for as, cd, cr, cu, hg, ni, pb and zn using instrumental neutron activation analysis. the results indicate a homogeneous distribution except for as and pb in all stations. assessment of heavy metal pollution in marine sediments requires knowledge of pre-anthropogenic me...
متن کاملheterogeneity within the orientalist discourse: representation of the orient in womens travelogues and mens paintings
from 1950s onward, new theories and critical approaches burgeoned across humanities. these theories were context-oriented; as a result, the analysis of discursive practices gained significance. thus, social, political, historical and cultural discourses that have been hitherto marginalized and considered inferior to literary texts, were introduced as important texts to be analyzed by critics. o...
